Eco-efficiency in early design decisions: A multimethodology approach

چکیده
Eco-efficiency is a key concept encompassing economic and environmental aspects to promote more efficient use of resources lower emissions. An eco-efficiency perspective in the design products services thus essential pursuit sustainability. This article proposes novel decision-support methodological approach assess impacts costs early stages, aimed at providing informed recommendations designers, manufacturers decision-makers. multimethodology integrates streamlined life-cycle cost assessment with data envelopment analysis (DEA) model that derives ratios compares alternative designs, without need subjectively weigh different metrics. A linear regression then used indicate most influential decision variables. was applied retrofit process historic residential building located Southern Europe. The metrics parameters are: climate change, acidification, eutrophication, non-renewable primary energy, net present value. sensitivity on decarbonization electricity mix also performed. offers valuable guidance allow decision-makers progressively specify variables an iterative way, using robust methods allowing for statistical validation results. case study revealed empirical results retrofits European climates, indicating impact (in both short long-term) are roof insulation thickness material followed by exterior wall material. After three specification, average always increased, higher gains obtained scenarios current (22–25% increase) modest (8–15% increase).

Measuring Eco-efficiency of Production: a Frontier Approach
Eco-efficiency of production is an important concept both from the viewpoint of society and business community; but as yet, there is no unambiguous way to its measurement. The purpose of this paper is to present a general measurement framework based on production theory and the activity analysis approach. Although we exploit the existing methods and techniques, our approach diverges essentially...
متن کاملTechnical Efficiency and Eco-Efficiency in the Manufacturing Industry: A Non-Parametric Frontier Approach
Poor environmental performance of the manufacturing activities is said to be attributed to the pollutants produced and emitted during the manufacturing process. These pollutants are regarded as undesirable output and cannot be ignored when measuring the efficiency of manufacturing activities. By applying Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and Directional Distance Function (DDF) approaches, this st...
متن کاملFragment-based Binding Efficiency Indices in Bioactive Molecular Design: A Computational Approach to BACE-1 Inhibitors
One of the most important targets in Alzheimer disease is Beta site amyloid precursor protein cleaving enzyme-1 (BACE-1). It is a membrane associated protein and is one of the main enzymes responsible for amyloid β (Aβ) production. Up to now, a considerable number of peptidic and non-peptidic inhibitors of BACE-1 have been developed. Recently, small molecule BACE-1 inhibitors have attracted the...
متن کاملEco-efficiency determinants: a new approach combining an agronomic whole–farm model and efficiency frontier analysis
The growing awareness on the multiple environmental impacts of livestock production has risen the necessity to widen the definition of efficiency to a multidimensional eco-efficiency concept. Our paper suggests a combined approach of a whole-farm agronomic model and frontier efficiency method to explore deeply the determinants of eco-efficiency. The whole-farm model used, GAMEDE, is randomly pa...
